TYPES OF VISA:
Ordinary/ Tourist Visa: This visa is issued at any Tanzanian embassy. It grants tourists/ visitors the authorization to enter the country through desiganted entry points on the border, through airports and harbour stattions. However, a person coming from a country with no access to a Tanzanian embassy or where it is reasonably distant shall be issued a visa at the entry points in Tanzania.
Business Visa: The business visa is issued to prospective investors who intend to visit Tanzania for such purposes as making feasibility studies, establishing professional and business contacts, and making arrangements for investments during the startup period. The validity of the visa can vary from one month to six months. The fees for the visa are determined administratively, so it is advised that prospective investors consult the appropriate authorities before making application for visas.
Multiple-Entry Visa: Foreigners who, because of their business or investments, need to make frequent visits to the United Republic of Tanzania are issued multiple-entry visas. Their validity ranges from one month to a year. Applications for multiple-entry visas are usually submitted by local contacts on behalf of the applicants. The fees for the visa are determined administratively; so-it is advised that prospective investors consult the appropriate authorities before making application for visas.
Referred Visa: The referred visa is one that requires special clearance or permission from the Director of Immigration Services in Dar es Salaam or the Principal Immigration Officer in Zanzibar. This type of visa is required for nationals of Lebanon, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Somalia and for Refugees, stateless people and other nationalities as may be specified from time to time by the authorities. People affected by this regulation may make enquiries at the nearest Tanzania mission abroad.

Transit Visa: A transit visa is a permission to cross Tanzania from one entry point to another and is for people whose purpose in entering Tanzania is simply to pass through without visiting. It is issued for a maximum of two weeks. There is no special clearance required for this visa except for those specified in Paragraph 4.4 above. The transit visa is issued only to people with onward tickets, sufficient funds for the crossing in Tanzania, and an entry visa for the country of destination (or any proof that prior arrangements have been made that satisfy this requirement).
ALL APPLICANTS ARE STRONGLY ADVISED TO OBSERVE AND COMPLY WITH ALL VISA REGULATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS OUTLINED BELOW BEFORE SUBMITTING AN APPLICATION.
VISA REGULATIONS AND NOTICES:
Visa processing hours are 9:00am to 1:00 pm Monday to Friday.
Visa processing takes a minimum of five (5) working days. Rush service is available for an extra $20, which takes 3 working days. The duration to remain in the country is determined by the immigration officer at he port of entry.
All visas are valid from the date of issuance. In the event a visa expires before it is utilized, the applicant will have to re-apply for a new one.
US Citizens ONLY: Effective September 20, 2007 travel visa fees will be US$100.00. The new fees will apply to single and all multiple entry visas.
Non-US Citizens: Visa fees are US$50.00 for single entry, and US$100.00 for double entry.
Visa Requirements:
1. A complete visa application form. (PDF or WORD)
2. Valid Passport (At least 6 months before expiration).
3. Two passport size photograph recently taken.
4. A sufficiently stamped self-addressed envelope to facilitate return of passport by the most secured mail.
5. Visa fees
- US passport visa fee is $100 for both 6 months single and 12 months multiple entry.
- Non U.S. passports visa fee is $50.00 for single entry and $100 for double entry..
- An extra $20 is charged for ALL visa rush services, which takes 3 business days.
-Payment is accepted in form of money order (payable to Tanzania Embassy) or cash (walk-ins only ).
6. Provide proof of travel plans (e.g. FLIGHT ITENERARY, TICKET, TOUR OPERATOR PACKAGE RECEIPTS) to and from Tanzania.
7. Provide proof of having sufficient funds to maintain the applicant while while in Tanzania. This can be done via bank statements, employer letter or pay stubs.
Single and double tourist visas are valid for ONLY 3 months. Special passes for extended stay are available at any immigration office in Tanzania.
Business or Professional engagement visa applications MUST be supported by a letter of invitation from a Tanzanian counterpart or letter of intent for the same by the sending institution.
Visas for research and journalism will only be granted after the applicant has been cleared by The Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH) and Tanzania Information Services (MAELEZO) respectively

No Visa is required for nationals of the following countries when the intended stay DOES NOT exceed 3 months: Namibia, Romania, Rwanda, Hong Kong and all commonwealth member states EXCEPT United kingdom, Canada, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Nigeria, India and South Africa.
Referred Visa requests - Nationals of the following countries MUST have their visa requests referred to Dar-es-salaam: Somalia, Lebanon, Bangladesh, Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Syria, Egypt, Jordan, Yemen, Morocco, Tunisia, U.A.E., Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Nigeria and West African nationals, all refugees and stateless persons.
IT IS EMPHASIZED THAT NATIONALS AND PERSONS OF THE MENTIONED CATEGORIES MAY NOT BE ALLOWED ENTRY INTO TANZANIA WITHOUT BEING IN POSSESSION OF REFERRED VISAS.

Immunization- vaccination against cholera and malaria is recommended.
Yellow fever vaccination is required only for persons from, or those who have visited yellow fever endemic countries.
Pet licenses/ certificates are required when traveling with pets to Tanzania.
Tourists/ Visitors may also obtain visas upon arrival at any entry point in Tanzania, but it is HIGHLY recommended that you secure a visa before traveling to Tanzania. Visas can be obtained from any Tanzanian embassy abroad.
