Embassy Overview

The Embassy of the United Republic of Tanzania has the responsibility of promoting relations of friendship and co-operation between the governments and the peoples of the United Republic of Tanzania and the United States of America. The Embassy is also accredited to Mexico. The Embassy's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

A. Political Matters

  1. Maintenance, promotion and expansion of good political relations between Tanzania and the United States as well as with Mexico
  2. Promotion and defence of the political and economic interests of Tanzania in the United States and Mexico
  3. Promotion and defence of the intrests of Tanzanian citizens in the United States and Mexico

B. Consular Matters

  1. Visa issuance
  2. Dissemination of information and advice to people visiting Tanzania
  3. Renewal of passports for Tanzanian citizens
  4. Passport replacement for Tanzanian citizens
  5. Issuance of Emergency Travel Documents (ETD) for Tanzania citizens in distress
  6. Providing advisory services to Tanzanian citizens
  7. Authentifications of Tanzanian government official documents.
  8. Notary Public for Tanzanian citizens.
  9. Solemnization of marriage for Tanzanian citizens.

C. Economic Matters

  1. Promotion of economic diplomacy
  2. Promotion of investments in Tanzania
  3. Promotion of tourism to Tanzania
  4. Coordination with the World Bank, IMF and other multilateral institutions

D. Other Matters

  1. Facilitating co-operation between NGOs in Tanzania and NGOs in the area of our accredidation
  2. Promoting cultural exchanges between Tanzania and other countries in the area of our accredidation
  3. Educational and Scientific cooperation
