FAQs:
Can I travel to with my Current Passport ( Old Version) to Tanzania and other destinations?
Immigration Headquarters (ImHq) has issued a circular that the current passport will no longer be valid from October 1st, 2005. However, for those who wish to travel back to Tanzania and they do not possess the new passports, they can travel with the current ones. In case, you are in this category, have already processed the documents for the passport, and have not yet received the passport, this mission will issue you with a letter of introduction to the ImHq so that you can collect the passport after it has been processed.
As for traveling with the Current Passport ( Old Version ) to other destinations, one needs to get an Emergency Travel Document (ETD), this will enable you to travel to and from Tanzania. The ETD will have to be presented to the authorities together with the current passport since it may still house your visa and other important travel notices.
How do I get Emergency Travel Documents?
Visit the Passport information page. Print and fill in the “new passport” form, then send it to us with your current passport ( Old version), 2 passport size pictures and money order of US $31.00 ( processing fee). Please use secure mail and don't forget to send a self-addressed and pre-stamped envelope so we can send you the processed ETD and your passport. It takes 3 to 5 working days to process ETDs.
How long does it take to process the new passports?
Processing for new passports will continue until all those who have not processed have done so.
New passports are sent out as soon as we receive them from headquarters (HQ). In case there is a change of address, please let us know as soon as possible to avoid sending your passport to the wrong address. Walk-in pick-ups are allowed.
