Passport Information

Passports are to be renewed after every five (5) years. The following information will explain Tanzania's passport regulations and procedures respective to the your passport status:

Lost Passports: Please process a Police report for the lost passport, advertise it's loss in your local newspaper and if found it should be sent to you, the Police or this embassy. If the passport is not recovered, a letter describing the situation and accompanied by a copy of the Police report, the newspaper advert and a new passport application form are to be sent to the Embassy. All the information will be forwarded to The Department of Immigrations Services in Dar-es-salaam for a background check. An approval or denail will be issued by the immigraton director. Once the we recieve official notice, we will notify you as soon as possible of your passport status.

Expired Passports: A typical passport has a life span of 10 years with a five (5) year renewable increment. As a result we have to categories of expring passports:
5 year renewal- To renew your current passport for an additional 5 years please complete the passport renewal form and submit it with a US$ 50 renewal fee to the Embassy of Tanzania or our honorary Consulates

10 year expiration- Request a new passport within 6 months prior to this expiration. The new passport form should be completed and submitted. If you are unable to access the form online, all forms are available to you by mail provided you give us your correct address and they are also available at the Embassy and each of our honorary Consulates.

  • Each appllicant has to submit a form. ( one form per appllicant ).
  • Send a US$ 50 fee (All payments are Payable to Embassy of Tanzania-Washington DC)
  • Send a self addressed prepaid envelop (most secure mail). We will send you the new passport and return old one as well.

Working Permits: We do not issue working permits. Working permits are processed by he Ministry of labour in Dar-es-salaam and only after securing a work contract in Tanzania. The following items are required for the processing of work permits:

  • Employment contract with local company or institution
  • TIF forms
  • Photocopy of your passport (six copies)
  • Curriculum Vitae or resume
  • Academic and professional certificates
  • Translation of certificates in English is not in English
  • Passport size pictures (six)
  • A copy of work permit in case one needs renewal of a previous one
  • A copy of registration certificate from a professional institution

Residentual Permit: We do not issue residentual permits. All such permits are processed by the Department Immigration Services in Dar es Salaam. Tthe following individuals are required to apply for the corresponding residentual permits:

  • Foreign investors - Class A residentual Permit
  • Expatriate staff - Class B residentual Permit
  • Student, missionaries and others - Class C residentual Permit
