I warmly welcome you to this official website of the Embassy of Tanzania in Washington, D.C.
It is my honor, pleasure and privilege to promote the relations of
friendship and cooperation that happily exist between our two countries and people, and to promote the interests of my country and people in this great country.
These relations reached a high point in February 2008 when in a six-day five-nation tour of Africa, the U.S. President, The Honorable George W Bush, spent four days and three nights in Tanzania, during which the largest ever Millennium Challenge Compact was signed between Tanzania and the U.S. to support the development efforts of the Tanzanian people and their Government, under the great and able leadership of President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete.
it is also my duty to project the correct image of Tanzania in the U.S., as a country historically and always at peace with itself and with it's neighbors; a country with a recent solid track record of macro-economic stability and an economy that has been growing at an average annual rate of over 6 percent in the last ten years; a democratic country with entrenched political stability and smooth political transitions; a tolerant society free from religious bigotry and ethnic rivalry.
Even though we are not yet an oil-producing country, Tanzania is among the leading destinations for Foreign Direct Investment in Africa. We have an attractive investment climate and are ready for business with the U.S. This website should be able to guide those who are interested.
We have warmly welcoming people, and a beautiful country noted for the greatest tourist attractions of Zanzibar, Mt. Kilimanjaro, The Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and many others. I am pleased that the U.S. has now become the biggest source of tourists visiting our country. This website is intended to inform and guide those who want to visit Tanzania-the ultimate safari country.
